What is Sexual Assault?

young-woman-aa027564.jpgSexual assault is a crime of power and control, in which someone as sexual contact with another person without their consent. Sexual assault includes but is not limited to unwanted touching, exposure, rape (forced sexual intercourse), child molestation, and any other kind of unwanted sexual contact. Perpetrators may use physical forces, pressure, and/or threats to overcome victims. Sometimes alcohol or other drugs are used to take advantage of victims. Sometimes survivors of sexual assault feel like they are to blame for being assaulted; however, it is NEVER the victim's fault.
