Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County (DVSAS) provides services to help the healing of lives traumatized by domestic violence and/or sexual assault throughout Whatcom County. These services are provided without prejudice and without cost to the client.

DVSAS is an independent 501 (C) 3 orgnization that relies on the community to share in the joy and burden of helping individuals impacted by intimate violence who are trying to create a safer environment and rebuild their lives.

Create a Safer Community

In 2006, Whatcom County Law Enforcement Agencies reported 1,696 domestic violence offenses, accounting for 14% of all reported crime in our community. In addition, there were 72 reported rapes. Sexual assault and domestic violence victims who have legal advocacy support are more likely to report assaults and testify in court, which can increase criminal convictions that will keep our community safer.

DVSAS provides legal advocacy

Prevent Homelessness

According to the Washington State Consolidated Plan for 2001-2005, 22% of homeless people are victims of domestic violence. Women who seek services get connected to emergency and transitional housing and other resources that help keep them and their families safe and off the streets.

DVSAS connects victims to necessary services.

Save Lives

The Washington State Domestic Violence Fatality Review identified that access to advocacy is a top fatality prevention recommendation.

DVSAS provides life-saving advocacy.

Rebuild Lives

Victims of abuse live in fear and lose power over their lives. Their sense of trust has been broken and their lives shattered. Survivors who get support learn coping techniques and begin to understand they are not alone which helps them recover and begin to rebuild their lives.

DVSAS provides support groups.

End the Violence

Empower youth and teach them how to build healthy, non-violent relationships now and in the future.

DVSAS provides education into the middle and high schools in Whatcom County.
